Evaluation

This is my final front cover for my college magazine. I used the photo that I said I would as it was a good medium close up. The main title is big and bold yet I didn't want it to all be the same colour so I changed the word 'Lewes' so that it was red. I chose red because I wanted my front page to show some continuation and Luke's top is in red. There is also some of his blue top showing around his collar so I chose blue to be my second colour for my fonts. My tagline for the magazine is underneath in an italic font so that it is different from all the rest, this is because it is quite small underneath the main title but I still wanted people to see it. The main flash is a quotation taken from an article in the magazine, this is because I wanted people to be intrigued to see what the rest of the article says. The other titles on the cover show stories that hopefully a student buying the college magazine would be interested in reading. There is a bar code and issue number as you need one of these on every magazine, I also included the month at the top of the magazine. I used different fonts and colours for my front cover as I wanted it to look interesting and not too formal. That is also why I used the circle to hold one title of what is going on in the magazine. I like the effect the different fonts give but if I were to change anything I would probably change some of the colours as some of the words just blend into the background and aren't as pronounced as I would have liked them to be.

This is my final contents page for my magazine. I wanted it to look similar to a pin board so I put an image of a pin board in the background and then had my details of what is inside the magazine set like sticky notes pinned onto the board. I wanted it like this because I thought it would appeal more to my target audience of the college students. My main title is bold and stands out from the background so that people know what page they are on without searching for a title, it would also be different from other features that would be inside the magazine and something that people could easily find when trying to find their way around the magazine. I put the college logo in the corner so that people are reminded that it is a student magazine. The sticky notes that I have got as my way of putting what is in the magazine are in bold colours that also stand out from the background. I used an easy to read font and on the darker coloured sticky notes changed the font to white so that you can still read what it says. There is room for pictures and I have rotated the boxes where they will be going so that my page does not look so formal. I like the idea of it being a pin board as I think it looks quite different, however if I were to change anything I would probably have a border running across the top like I said I was to start with that had the title along the top again as it would show the continuation throughout the magazine.

Photographs

Here are two pictures that I took to use for my magazine. This one is the one that I am not going to use. This is because the camera angle is not the right shot, it was shot from below. It is not a medium close up. It also does not start from his shoulders but instead from around his waist. Luke is also not looking at the camera and it looks like I have taken the picture with him off guard. Therefore I can not use this picture for my main picture on the front of my magazine.

This picture here on the left is the photo that I am going to use for my main picture on the front of my magazine. This is because it is a medium close up starting from the shoulders and ending at the top of the head, none of his head has been cut off either. He is looking at the camera and I think it would make a good picture for the front of my magazine. I will probably take out some of the wall behind him though to make sure that there is more room for my font and descriptions of what is going to be going on in the rest of the magazine.

Flat Plans

I have decided to call my magazine 'Life at Lewes' because it is going to be about what goes on in the college. The masthead I would like to be quite bold and standing out. I would also like my main image to overlap the masthead as this means that the attention is mainly drawn towards the picture and what the magazine has to offer. I would like my tag line to be " The official student magazine".

Because this magazine is going to be the first issue since the beginning of the school year, I would like my main flash to say "Welcome to Lewes- what to expect from Lewes College". My main flash is going to be big and bold also. Other images can take up space on the front cover to back up what else is included in the magazine. My front page will also have a barcode, date, issue number and price. I am going to price my magazine at £1 as I think that more students will buy it if it is this price. Text with smaller headings could be rotated and angled to make the front cover look more appealing to a younger audience. The strap line is going to include titles about what else is going to be included in the magazine also.

For my contents page I would like to have a bold border running across the top of the page with the main title in it to show continuation throughout the magazine. The rest of the contents page I would like to have pictures in so that it still looks bright and interesting. If possible to appeal to my target audience of the college students I would like to maybe have a theme for my contents page, I was thinking something like a pin board with the contents of the magazine listed but so that is looks like they have been stuck to the pin board. The main flash of the title 'CONTENTS' I would like to stand out in capital letters and perhaps to be big and bold. Some of the pictures could be rotated to make the contents page look more interesting. The font should be continuous with the front page and also be easy to read yet look like something a college student would like to see.

Introduction

For this task we have been asked to create a front page and contents page for a magazine that would be sold at our college. I am going to aim my magazine at the students, so it will hold information that will interest the students.
